The Woonsocket American Legion Post #29 and the Town ‘N Kountry Kids Red Group 4-H Club teamed up to present a flag burning ceremony at Woonsocket School. Town ‘N Kountry Club President Rex Schlicht met with the elementary classes to prepare them for their part in the event, explaining how to handle a US flag with respect. He also organized a flag detail with representatives from grades 7-12. The group was blessed with a beautiful spring day with a light breeze. The flag burning ceremony was led by Legion Post Commander Lindy Peterson, assisted by Legion members Duane Peterson, Jerome Anderson, Paula Linke and Keith Senska. The school flag detail presented unserviceable flags for disposal and inspection, which were then retired and destroyed by burning. Each of the elementary students then brought forward a flag for burning, with a total of over 200 flags respectfully retired. Members of the Town ‘N Kountry Kids 4-H Club assisted with the burning of the flags.
