More than 200 graduating seniors from South Dakota’s public, private and Tribal/Bureau of Indian Education schools will be honored at the 2016 Academic Excellence Recognition Luncheon, which honors the top one percent of graduating seniors from the class of 2016, on Monday, April 25 at the Ramkota Rivercentre in Pierre.
Bailey Moody of Sanborn Central and Rex Schlicht of Woonsocket School were both chosen as honorees from their schools.
This year marks the 26th annual luncheon hosted by Associated School Boards of South Dakota in association with Gov. Dennis Daugaard, the School Administrators of South Dakota and the Department of Education.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and Gov. Daugaard is expected to speak at approximately noon. Following the Governor’s speech, each student in attendance will be presented a certificate and pin, personally greeted by the governor and have their photo taken with him.
The event is sponsored by the South Dakota Community Foundation.

Six members of Hope Circle met on April 14 at the United Methodist Church in Woonsocket at 5:30 p.m.
Jannet Larson and Sue Larson provided a meal of taco salad and ice cream sundaes. Those attending were Jannet Larson, Barb Coulthard, Vicki Linke, Vickie Hines, JoAnn Schladweiler and Sue Larson.
Vicki Linke, chairman, called the meeting to order following the meal.
Sue Larson read the previous month’s minutes and gave a treasurer’s report. JoAnn Schladweiler gave the W/ELCA financial report.
“Bring a Friend to Church” Sunday at the Community Center was April 17 at 10 a.m. with a variety of soups, sandwiches, pie and ice cream for a donation to our VBS camping event to be held on June 12-15.
Seven ladies from our parish attended the Prairie Rivers Spring Gathering in Wessington Springs at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on April 9.
The “Quilting for Missions” group has gone from meeting weekly to the first and third Thursday of the month for the summer.
The Bible study was “Keep On Keeping On” taken from Philippians 4:4-23.
Our May hostess is Kim Hiemstra on May 12.

On March 21, Susan Shrewsbury of Huron ran into a deer, dealing $3,200 worth of damages to her Chevy Pickup.
On March 31, Debra Starzl of Crooks had her GMC Acadia damaged by a crooked deer, dealing $3,500 worth of damages.
On April 5, Donna Gee of Artesian rolled her 1996 Chrysler Sebring, resulting in $6,000 damages to her vehicle.
The following Tuesday, April 12, Duane Tolsma of Avon was ill met by a deer with ill will, when the deer smashed his 2004 Nissan Titan XE, leaving Duane’s vehicle with $3,000 worth of damages.
