Letcher Town Board proceedings

September 18th, 2017

Mayor Chada called the meeting to order with Hoffman, Larson, and Meier in attendance.
A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Larson, carried, to approve the September 7th, 2017, minutes as read.
A motion was made by Larson, seconded by Hoffman, carried, to approve the financials as presented.
Old Business:
Discussion was held on meters that need to be fixed. Discussion was held on past due accounts.
Electricity at the sump has been turned off.
Discussion was held on property taxes for 2018.
Discussed the new Workman’s Comp Insurance.
Discussion was held on the Copper and Lead Samples/TMH water samples.
New Business:
Tanya Dise with Fischer Rounds and Associates was at the meeting to go over the Health Insurance renewals for 2018. Renewals signed.
Discussion was held on the boundary census map.
A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Larson, carried, to approve the following claims for payment:
GENERAL AND WATER/SEWER: Wellmark BCBS – $1,657.75 – health insurance, NorthWestern Energy – $30.62 – electricity – ball park, Hoffman Well & Digging Repair – $540.00 – clean-up – mowing/trees, Albert Selland & Sons – $1,400.00 – blading streets.
The next board meetings will be held on October 2nd and 19th, 2017.

Joan Pearson

Huron

Joan Pearson, 84, of Huron and formerly of Forestburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Her funeral service was Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Huron Christian Church, with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at rural Huron. Visitation, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, was Monday, Oct. 23, and one hour prior to the service, also at the church.
Joan Jackson was born Sept. 16, 1933, to Amos and Myra (Farnish) Jackson at Barry, Texas. She grew up in Emhouse, Texas, until moving to Temple, Texas, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at Ford Motor Co.
Joan married Carl Pearson on Jan. 17, 1953 in Temple when he returned from serving in Korea. They then moved to South Dakota, where she became a farm wife and they raised their family. She was a hard worker and taught her children good work ethics.
She was active in her church, serving as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and was also involved in a Home Extension Club for many years. Joan enjoyed sewing, and was an excellent cook and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
Joan is survived by her husband, Carl, of Huron; children, Gail (Ken) Farnham of Tulsa, Okla., Joey (Tammi) Pearson of Brandon, and Timothy (Julie) Pearson of Forestburg; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Foster of Auburn, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Jackson; and brothers, Virgil Jackson and Clifton Jackson.

Robert Small

Alpena

Robert “Bob” Small, 61, of Alpena, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service was Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Alpena Community Center, with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery, Alpena. Visitation was Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron, with family present and a time of sharing at 7 p.m.
Robert Carl Small was born May 9, 1956, to Richard and Doris (Leighton) Small, at Huron. He graduated from Alpena High School.
On Jan. 5, 1974, he married Linda Lou Lambert at Huron.
In March of 1980, Bob started work at the Federal Building. He retired in November of 2011, and then drove bus for People’s Transit from Sept. 25, 2012, until his passing. Bob volunteered with the Alpena Fire Department for more than 42 years.
Bob was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, hunted, golfed and played on Larry Hampshire’s softball team. He enjoyed camping and sharing a cold one with his friends. Most of all, he loved his family, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and attending their activities.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Stacy (Shane) Machtemes of Faulkton; two sons, Jon (Sarah) Small of Brandon, and Cody (Jaclyn) Small of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren; eight siblings, Susie (Doug) Tschetter of Huron, Nancy (Bill) Dawson of St. Charles, Mo., Jayne (Bobby) Hyde of Farmington, Minn., Pete (Sandy) Small of Rapid City, Richard (Carla) Small of Alpena, and Steven Small, A.J. Small, and Gina Small, all of Huron; mother-in-law, Martha Lambert of Faulkton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; father-in-law, Richard Lambert; niece, Elizabeth Robinson-Grillo; and his wife of 40 years, Linda.
