A 2015 Madison High School graduate was named Miss South Dakota USA 2018. Madison Nipe, daughter of Chris and Carrie Nipe of Madison, will now compete in the national Miss USA pageant.
The Miss South Dakota USA pageant took place on Oct. 1 at the Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center. Nipe will compete next year at the Miss USA national pageant, which will air live on FOX Television. The winner of the Miss USA competition will represent the United States in the Miss Universe competition, which is televised in over 130 countries.
Madison Nipe is the granddaughter of John Roache and the late Pat Roache of Huron, and formerly of Woonsocket.

The Walking With the Savior youth at First Lutheran Church in Artesian have been studying the Parables of Jesus, including the Parable of the Mustard Seed. They decorated a mustard tree with leaves that had their names on them and also what their faith meant to them.

Shane Oberg

Artesian

Shane David Oberg, 47, of Artesian, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, at Mitchell Assembly of God Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian. Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 11, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, also at the church.
Shane was born Sept. 30, 1970, to David and Nancy (Anderson) Oberg in Chisago City, Minn. He began working at the age of 16 at Sell Publishing. He graduated from Summit Christian Academy in 1988, and then attended Century College for law enforcement. Shane began working at Idea Goyr Mail, as well as Margaret S. Parmly Residence as a certified nursing assistant.
In 1997, Shane married Jo Anne Larson and the couple welcomed three children.
Shane loved deer hunting with family. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, traveling, taking care of his dog, Alpha, and most of all being a Vikings fan and taking bus trips with Jo.
Shane led by example in his church, Mitchell Assembly of God, where he was a board member for many years and taught Royal Rangers for nine years. He was involved in community activities including chain gang at Sanborn Central football games, volunteering at The Love Feast in Mitchell and mowing and snow blowing for neighbors.
Shane is survived by his wife, Jo; his son, Tony (Caroline) Oberg, of Howard; his daughters, Bonnie Oberg of Mitchell and Crystal (Benjamin) Stech of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; his parents, David and Nancy Oberg of Chisago City, Minn; his sisters, Kim (Jim) Stone of Taylors Falls, Minn., and Carey (David) Mosel of Lafayette, Minn.; his aunt, Gerry (Al) Ohlgren of Menagha, Minn; his uncle, Ron (Bobbi) Anderson of International Falls, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, LaFloyd and Nora Oberg and Ernie and Wanda Anderson.
Arrangements are with Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
