Waverly Hagman and Santa enjoy a conversation about what she wants for Christmas.

The Sanborn County Courthouse had their annual Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 15.
The Community Choir sang a few Christmas carols, including some from this year’s cantata they performed in November. Santa came to visit with any children who were willing to talk with him about what they wanted for Christmas, and there were many beautiful trees on display from countywide businesses throughout the courthouse on all three floors. The county employees also put together a scavenger hunt for anyone who was interested in a fun way to take the tour of trees.
In addition to all the entertainment, there were treats, punch and coffee served for those in attendance, and Santa and his helpers handed out candy-filled candy canes to all the children who ventured in.
The trees will be on display at the courthouse through the New Year holiday. The courthouse is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but they will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Josie Weber, Kaylee White (hidden but sitting to Josie’s right), Ashleigh Fry, Nathan Linke, and Brooklyn Swenson perform as part of the woodwinds section of the Woonsocket High School Band.

The Woonsocket gym was packed full of concert goers on Tuesday, Dec. 12 with anticipation of what music they would hear from the preschool through 12th grade classes.
The ladies who participated in All-State Choir performed first with the song “Silent Night,” which included a solo by senior Ashleigh Fry. Then the band department started their half of the concert with the fifth grade band, followed by the sixth and seventh grade band, and ending with the high school band. The bands are all directed by Miss Jacque Bratcher.
The second half of the concert consisted of three groups singing two songs each. They started with the seventh through 12th grade choir, and then moved on to the preK through first grades. The second through sixth grades capped off the night with two final Christmas songs.
All preK through 12th grade choir music is directed by Mrs. Jennifer Easton.
The Woonsocket Post-Prom committee served a BBQ meal before and after the concert as one of their fundraisers for the year.
Those unable to attend Woonsocket School events taking place in the gym should be made aware that these events are televised on the Woonsocket School channel, which is channel 104 through the Santel cable service.

Volunteers work busily putting out 40 food and drink items for people to put in their boxes to take home.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the Feeding South Dakota food truck came to Woonsocket to provide food supplies to those in need.
Funded by the Sanborn County Food Pantry and a grant from Feeding South Dakota, there were over 12,000 pounds of food to give out this month as there will not be a disbursement in the month of January, and there was food included to use in the schools’ backpack programs throughout the county.
In addition to the food handed out that Wednesday, the Sanborn County Food Pantry volunteers have worked diligently on putting together many Christmas boxes for needy families in the county to have what they need to have a nice Christmas meal.
