The South Dakota FFA Association hosted the 2017 State Leadership Development Events (LDEs) in Pierre on Dec. 3-4.
Alex Wormstadt, Austin Schmit, Madi Moody and Sawyer Senska represented the SC/W FFA Chapter as the Agribusiness Salesmanship team. They qualified for participation at State LDEs during the District LDEs held at Mitchell Technical Institute in November. While at State LDEs, the Ag Sales team placed 13th. In addition, Nathan Linke attended and assisted the SD FFA in the public speaking event room.
The Agribusiness Salesmanship event consisted of team presentation, individual sales portion, and a sales knowledge test. At the team presentation component, members are presented four customer scenarios and given thirty minutes to prepare a presentation. They then present to a panel of judges, as if the the judges were their supervisors, detailing how they would sell to the four customers described in the scenarios they received earlier. The individual component consists of one on one sales with a judge that fits one of the customer scenarios. They are evaluated on their ability to utilize the selling process in making their sales.

Nine members of Hope Circle of Spirit of Faith Lutheran Methodist Church gathered in the Sue Larson home for their regular meeting plus Christmas party on Dec. 14.
Following the supper meal, Sue Larson read “Santa’s Prayer” by Tom Roberts for the devotional. Vicki Linke, chairman, called the meeting to order. Sue read the previous minutes and gave a treasurer’s report. She also gave the totals for the 2017 Mission Quilting projects: 25 large quilts, four small quilts, 35 health kits, 91 baby layettes and 148 school kits.
It was decided to give $150 to the Sanborn County Food Pantry from the “jar fund,” plus $20 to the Vacation Bible Day Camp next summer.
The next quilting session will be on Jan. 4, at 9 a.m. at the church.
Twelve Christmas care baskets were packed for various members and shut-ins. Secret prayer sisters were revealed with a gift exchange and new “sisters” were drawn for 2018.
Hope Circle does not meet in January so the group’s next meeting will be on Feb. 9, at PVHC.
Members attending were Barb Coulthard, JoAnn Schladweiler, Jacki Aymar, Ruth Jensen, Vicki Linke, Vickie Hines, Evelyn Mitzel, Kim Hiemstra and Sue Larson.
