Ross Lee, 86, of Mitchell, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with the Reverend Jerry Stravia officiating. Visitation was Tuesday, Sept. 5, also at the Chapel. Burial was at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell with military rites.
Ross Edwin Lee was born Nov. 11, 1930, at Mitchell, to Howard and Selma (Kruse) Lee. He attended Mitchell schools and graduated from Mitchell High School. He worked for Porter Motor Co. until being drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952, and was stationed in Japan. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he returned to Porter Motor Co. until they closed.
On March 13, 1955, he married Caroline King at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. He owned and operated Lee Auto Service for several years before beginning his career at the Mitchell Post Office in 1965, and he retired in 1990 as night supervisor.
Ross enjoyed fishing, hunting and the annual rally at Sturgis. Trips to China and Alaska were among his travels.
Ross is survived by his wife, Caroline; three sons, Allen (Gail) Lee of Brookings, Bruce Lee of Gillette, Wyo., and Clark (Darla) Lee of Humboldt; five grandchildren; sister, Beverly (Ed) Durst of Sioux Falls; brothers-in-law, Irvin (Jeanie) King of Artesian, Leo King and Leonard (Maggie) King; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Nicholson of Artesian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ida May Lee; parents-in-law, Everett and Lena King; a brother, Robert Lee; sisters-in-law, Nellie King and Jesse King; and brother-in-law, Jerry Nicholson.
