Sanborn Central senior and future South Dakota State Jackrabbit Myah Selland is racking up the post-season accolades, earned from an incredibly successful high school basketball season and career.
This year’s awards include Hansen Anderson’s SD Miss Basketball finalist – the winner to be announced this Sunday, SD State Girls Basketball Player of the Year, SD Gatorade Player of the Year, Argus Leader’s First Five Player of the Year, the Daily Republic Player of the Year, First Team All-State, State Class B Spirit of Su and more.
Last week her coach, Mr. Tim McCain was informed that the national Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame would be including Selland’s jersey in their Ring of Honor, “in recognition of her outstanding play for the 2016-17 season,” the letter states.
The Ring of Honor is at the Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn., and has over 100 jerseys hanging in it, including many high school and college All-Americans. The letter goes on to state that, “Without a doubt, Myah Selland is definitely a part of an elite group, and a part of history now too!”
It states the Ring of Honor not only provides a colorful backdrop to the Hall of Fame’s many archives, but it’s their way of recognizing some young basketball players for their achievements, and in doing so, the Hall of Fame fulfills its mission to “honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future” of women’s basketball.
