Jessy’s Toy Box is a local organization started by James “Jessy” Haberman in 2015. Jessy was born with a rare syndrome in 2010. He was no stranger to the hospital and received infusions at Roger Maris in Fargo, N.D. During that time, he received a gift, and he got the idea to start “Jessy’s Toy Box” so he could keep the gift of giving going.
Sadly, Jessy passed away on Feb. 19, 2018. His parents made a promise to him to keep his dream of Jessy’s Toy Box going in his honor. Jessy’s grandma is Linda (Fink) Kinn from the Wessington Springs area, so they are extending their reach to help families in South Dakota.
Woony Foods and First National Bank in Woonsocket have both offered to be a drop off location for donations for Jessy’s Toy Box. The ages of the kids they donate to are 0-18 years old.
The following is a list of some ideas of what a person, group or family can donate to Jessy’s Toy Box:
•New toys (Barbies, Legos, stuffed animals, etc.) – any toy that you know that kids love is always a great idea;
•Gift cards (iTunes, Amazon, Xbox, PlayStation, Barnes and Noble, etc.);
•Blankets, slippers, nail polish, books, board games;
•Cash donations are also accepted. With this money, they will buy movie tickets and other activities in the Sioux Falls area.
The toys collected will be taken to the Sanford Children’s Castle of Care Hospital in Sioux Falls.
