The Central Electric Cooperative Operation Round-Up program awarded $12,200 to eight local organizations after the Board of Trustees meeting on May 23.
Recipients included the following: 1) Letcher Community Development, $2,300 for community center updates; 2) Gann Valley Community Center, $1,000 for insulation replacement; 3) Howard Youth Basketball, $1,500 for basketball hoops; 4) Dacotah Tipis Habitat for Humanity in Fort Thompson, $2,000 for radon mitigation in their volunteer sleeping quarters; 5) Plankinton Pool Committee, $700 for pool equipment; 6) Stickney Volunteer Fire Department, $2,250 for a gear washer; 7) Wessington Springs Baseball, $1,500 for equipment updates; and 8) White Lake Volunteer Fire Department, $950 for a gas monitor.
The Board of Trustees reviewed 26 applications totaling more than $100,000 in fund requests. The next Operation Round-Up deadline is Nov. 1.
Since the program’s initiation in 2015, Operation Round-Up has awarded over $60,000 to local projects. Operation Round-Up grants are funded by Central Electric members who voluntarily round-up their electric bill to the nearest dollar.
