The regular meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 29 met in the community center on May 1, at 6:30 p.m. President Dawn Rassel led the opening ceremonies with Chaplain Judy Stenzel leading the opening prayer.
The minutes of the March meeting and a treasurer’s report were accepted as read. A report was given by Dawn Rassel on the Legion birthday lunch, which was served at the Post meeting in March.
Newsletters from District 6 President Linda Holmes were read and discussed. New officers elected at the spring district meeting were announced. The new president is Theresa Maechen of Ethan, and secretary and treasurer are Bonnie McBrayer of Ethan and Sharon Broghammer of Mitchell, respectively.
Girls State Orientation is May 6, at 2 p.m., in Wessington at the Legion Post #110. Dawn Rassel announced the delegates for Girls State for Post 29 are Erica Howard and Sarah Baysinger.
Officers elected for the 2018-2019 year are president, Dawn Rassel; first vice-president, Lynn Brueske; second vice-president, Carrie Howard; secretary, Mary Kay Regynski; treasurer, Barbara Maurice; chaplain, Judy Stenzel; and sergeant at arms, Darla Tucker.
Plans were made for the Memorial Day lunch. Sandwiches will be made by volunteer members in the morning, and bars will be furnished by members.
It is poppy month and everyone is urged to wear a poppy to honor veterans.
The department convention will be held in Spearfish June 7-9.
Following the closing ceremonies, President Dawn Rassel adjourned the meeting.
Cookies for the Prairie View Healthcare Community Bingo will be furnished by Judy Stenzel and Karen Krueger for May, Valerie Mann and Myrna Knigge for June, Karen Kogel and Judy Hinker in July, and Lynn Brueske and Connie Swenson in August.
