The annual Sanborn County 4-H Achievement Day Community BBQ will be this Friday, Aug. 9, serving a delicious shredded beef sandwich meal from 6-7 p.m. Note that this is a change to the schedule as we have traditionally served the BBQ meal on Saturday night. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. An optional treat is to have a piece of pie with your meal for a free will donation. Check out the 4-H member exhibits while you are there and then plan to watch the entertaining Ag Olympics from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
You are invited to return for the community pancake breakfast served by area businesses and our Sanborn County Commissioners on Saturday morning from 7-9 a.m. The livestock shows begin at 8:30 a.m. in the show ring. Swine will be exhibited first, followed by goats, dairy and breeding sheep.
There will be a lunch break at noon to serve grilled burgers and hotdogs with SDSU ice cream, and showcase the 4-H members with a Parade of Purples in the 4-H Building. After lunch, return to the show ring for the rabbit/companion pet/poultry highlight show, and then move to the market sheep and beef shows.
Each of the livestock shows will include showmanship competition, and then at the conclusion of the beef show will be the round-robin showmanship contest. Senior level 4-Hers showcase their showmanship skills for showing all species in pursuit of the Grand Champion Round Robin Showmanship Award.
Come on over to support the county’s 4-H members and enjoy the fun. A full schedule of events can be found at http://sanborncounty4h.com/2.html.
