On Saturday, March 30, a large crowd of people came together at the Woonsocket Community Center to support Shelley Wheeler in her fight against cancer. There was a chili and chicken noodle soup feed with a variety of desserts, a silent auction with over 60 items to bid on and a gun raffle. Mark Snedeker was the winner of the gun raffle and is now the proud owner of a Henry 22 caliber rifle.
Wheeler was diagnosed with lung cancer caused by Radon gas on Christmas Eve in 2018. After her medical team tried to remove the tumor surgically and found that it wasn’t an option due to scarring, Wheeler had to go through an intense round of radiation to try to get rid of the tumor. She will find out in May whether the radiation worked and all of the tumor has been removed or if they need to continue with treatment.
