For her senior project, Erica Howard is asking for donations of items for children in foster care, which she will be giving to the Department of Social Services.
“I decided on this project because I want kids to be able to have their own items, when they go to a foster home,” Howard said, “I, also, want the foster homes to have all the items they need when taking care of a child.”
The items that Howard is asking for are: duffle bags, book bags, pajamas (all sizes), pacifiers, socks and underwear (“Remember, not all foster kids are little.”), diapers, diaper rash cream, pull-ups, wipes (travel packs of wet ones or full size), t-shirts, leggings, sweats, etc., toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair ties, blankets, pillows, olive oil and nit combs for head lice, and slippers or slip on shoes (all sizes).
There are also items that the Department of Social Services loans to foster homes, such as a Pack n’ Play or cots.
Howard will take new and used items. She will leave bins for donation items in the library, at the Sanborn Weekly Journal office and at Woony Foods. If you want to take part in the drive but are uncertain what to donate, you can donate money, as well, and Howard will purchase items needed. If you have any questions, text or call her at 605-350-8318.
“Thank you for helping me give these kids what they need!”
