The Woonsocket little league baseball teams all participated in their league tournaments to end the season for this summer. The rookies started with their all-day tournament on Thursday, June 27, in Chamberlain. They played Plankinton and won 4-2 in their first game. Their second game was a close one, with Woonsocket losing 3-4 to Wessington Springs. However, in the final round of pool play, Plankinton beat Wessington Springs, and since Woonsocket allowed the least amount of runs for their opponents, Woonsocket advanced to the semi-finals out of their pool. In their semi-final game, Woonsocket’s Rookies lost to Platte, and ended their season with third place in the league.
On Friday, June 28, the Woonsocket minors traveled to Plankinton for their end-of-the season tournament. They played two games and lost both with scores of 10-3. Their first game was against Ethan, and their second game was against Mt. Vernon. Coach Rodriguez commented that they played well, but they had some tough competition to get through.
On Saturday, June 29, which was the hottest day so far in the year 2019, the Woonsocket majors team spent their day in Platte for their final ball play of the year. They had a long tournament under some tough conditions and still played well. They won their first game against Kimball/White Lake, 6-5. Their second game went into extra innings, but after three extra rounds, Woonsocket came out on top with a final score of 10-7, which advanced them to the semi-finals, where they lost to Corsica/Stickney 6-2. With a great season under their belts, they ended their season with third place in the league.
