Mildred Louise Gluhm, 94, passed away on April 13, 2019, at her son’s home with family present.
Visitation was held Wednesday, April 17, at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, at Bethel Church. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Mildred was born on Aug. 21, 1924, at home in Afton Township in Sanborn County to John Charles and Bessie Mae (Smith) Heinrichs. She lived on the farm until 1941 when her parents moved to Artesian, and she graduated from Artesian High School.
Mildred married Ordell Palmer Gluhm from Howard on June 10, 1945. They made their home in Miner County until 1964 when they moved to Hot Springs. They were blessed with six children, five of whom are still living.
Mildred worked for more than twenty years at the State Soldiers Home where she retired. She and her husband later moved to property they purchased outside of Rapid City. It was there where her beloved husband passed away in March of 2002. They had 56 years of happiness together.
Mildred is survived by her children, Daniel (Pondi) Gluhm of Rapid City, Luella (Elmer) Griffith of Casper, Wyo., Geraldine (Bob) Bridgford, Barbara (Kenneth) Horton of Sioux Falls, and Patty Reichelt of Custer; her sister, Henrietta Ann (Everett) Burns of Farmington, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donald Gluhm; her husband, Ordell; her brother, John; her sisters, Miretta and Geraldine; and her son-in-law, Jim Reichelt.
