Arlene Marie Dorris, 94, of Artesian, passed away on May 26, 2021.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 29, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Artesian with a rosary service. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian.
Arlene Marie Eining was born on May 28, 1926, to Bernard and Mildred (Rubendall) Eining. Growing up, Arlene attended country school and worked on the family farm. She helped her family host barn dances in “Eining’s Barn” during the depression.
Arlene was united in marriage to Dale A. Dorris on March 10, 1946. To this union, David and Katherine were born. For many years, their family hosted and guided out-of-state pheasant hunters. Arlene’s bread baking and cooking skills were legendary among their hunters, friends, and family. Arlene often told stories about her years of driving and working, with the Artesian ladies, at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell. She worked as a nurse’s aide, always helping others.
Arlene was devout in her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Charles parish in Artesian. Arlene was a lifelong Democrat in Sanborn County. She loved her family unconditionally and looked forward to visits, letters, and telephone calls.
Arlene is survived by her son, David; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Katherine; her parents, Bernard and Mildred; infant brother, Joseph; brothers, Damon, Carmen, Kenneth (Johnny), and Bernard (Mac); sisters, Katherine (DeForrest) Weber and Patricia (Velmer) Wire; niece/sister, Kay Forrest (Glen) Palmer; and two nephews.
Memorials may be directed to Will Funeral Chapel in Arlene’s name.
