Each year, FFA has a program called “Blue Jacket Program.” They award a number of jackets to each chapter based on their enrollment of the past year. All freshmen have the opportunity to apply. The jacket program is supported by people who donated money to pay for the jackets. The applicants must write an essay about what they like about FFA, why they joined and what they like about their chapter. Seventeen students applied this year from the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Chapter. Three students received the blue jacket award. They received a jacket with their name on it and a tie for free (that is about $80). They must then write a thank you note to the person that paid for their jacket. In the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket FFA Chapter, the jackets went to Bryce Larson and Alex Schelske, both of Sanborn Central School, and Emilie Lindgren, of Woonsocket School.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the ninth through 12th grade students pictured above were honored with being selected to perform at the Region V Music Festival concert held in Gregory this year. The band performed a few songs first, and then the choir performed a few songs. To finish the concert, the band and choir performed a patriotic piece together. Both groups were directed by guest directors from Northern State University in Aberdeen.

The students of Woonsocket Elementary’s PreK through fourth grades recently saw some notable changes in their classrooms. The traditional desks with attached seats are becoming scarce in many schools. The use of different types of desks and seating has been studied and has proven to help some students with staying focused and to help teachers to be able to do more of a variety of lessons or projects in order to meet the learning needs of each individual student. Therefore, they are helping more students be successful at learning in the classroom setting.
