Last Wednesday, May 19, Woonsocket Elementary School celebrated the last day of school with a field day and walk-a-thon. The day began with field day at the Woonsocket baseball field, playground and skatepark. There were six stations setup for each class to take turns visiting. One station located north of the playground had two bouncy houses, one for younger kids and one for older kids, where third grade teacher Mrs. Jessica Bruce and second grade teacher Mrs. Kaycee Polly supervised the fun.
There were three stations at the baseball field. In outfield, fourth grade teacher Miss Bailey Moody led the elementary students in relay races. In the infield, sixth grade teacher Mr. Matt Henriksen pitched the ball for the classes to compete in a kickball game. Next, they went to the concession stand, where special ed teacher Mrs. Rebecca Potrament and first grade teacher Mrs. Sarah Jensen made and handed out snow cones.
The playground was supervised by Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Kylie Pauly and aides Jessica Anderson and Crystal Lammey for free play.
The final station was monitored by fifth grade teacher Mrs. Shannon VanHeerden at the skatepark/basketball hoops, where students could draw with sidewalk chalk on the blacktop or play a game of bean bags.
After field day, the kids were treated to “Web” dogs for lunch at the park. Superintendent Rod Weber grilled the hot dogs for the kids to enjoy.
The day wrapped up with the annual WEPC walk-a-thon around Lake Prior. The students received their new t-shirts to commemorate the event and spent the hour walking around the path at the lake. The walk-a-thon is an annual event that the WEPC puts on to raise funds for the many activities and equipment they provide to the school. To donate, please send funds to: WEPC, Woonsocket School, PO Box 428, Woonsocket 57385. School dismissed early at 1:30 p.m., and the teachers wished the students a fun and safe summer.
