With such a long winter and the many feet of snow the area received over the past few months, there has been a slow start to the track season, with one of the team’s track meets getting postponed yet again last week. That makes four track meets either canceled or postponed so far this season. However, the Blackhawks did get to compete in their first meet of the season in Howard on Tuesday, April 18, and the boys brought home second place as a team, so the season is off to a slow, but great, start.
For the girls, those who placed in the top five in their event are: Hannah Terkildsen – third in high jump; Aubrey Senska – second in triple jump; 4X800M relay team of Jaycee Baruth, Addy Baruth, Kali Hofer and Ellie Hofer – third place; Makenzie Schley – fifth in long jump; and Lizzy Boschee – second in 110M hurdles and second in 300M hurdles.
The SCW Blackhawk boys who placed in the top five of their event are: 4X800M relay team of McCoy Schulz, Sam Baruth, Payton Uecker and Carter Hitchcock – first place; Medley relay team of Tyson Eddy, Michael Hoffman, Hayden Beigh and McCoy Schulz – third place; Jeff Boschee – first in high jump, first in long jump, second in triple jump and first in the 400M dash; Hayden Beigh – second in 400M dash; Sam Baruth – third in 3200M run; Toby Kneen – fourth in discus and third in shot put; and Cody Slykhuis – first in 110M hurdles and fourth in triple jump.
Toby Kneen broke the SCW Blackhawks shot put record with a throw of 42 feet and three inches at the Howard meet.
The varsity tracksters were scheduled to compete in the Miller Booster Relays on Tuesday, April 25, in Miller. They then travel back to Miller for the Rearick/Warbird Relays on Friday, April 28, and they go to Freeman for the Don Diede Relays on Tuesday, May 2.
