Doris J. (Pearson) Green, 89, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Dec. 1, 2024, while at Ava’s (Hospice) House, surrounded by her children.
A memorial service was Friday, Dec. 6, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, with a visitation one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Doris was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Vincent and Clara (Olsen) Pearson. She attended elementary school in Hawarden, and when they moved to Sioux City, she was allowed to skip a grade, graduating mid-term in 1953 from Central High School.
On March 31, 1956, she married Norman R. Green in Mapleton, Iowa, then resided in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a sales representative for Avon Corporation until the family moved to Sioux Falls in 1977 where she began a 21-year career with Sears in floor sales, followed by office manager.
Doris volunteered with the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls for over 25 years, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. She was a member of the American Businesswomen’s Association and Red Hat Society. She also volunteered with Boy Scouts of America, receiving one of the highest volunteer recognition awards, and she taught Sunday school.
She loved writing poetry, reading, adorning her tree with lights and seasonal decorations, movies, and singing happy birthday to each of her children every year.
Doris is survived by her children, Jan Dee Green-Johnson (Rod) Custer, Wash., Parris “Perry” Green (Mary Sue) of Quanah, Texas, Kim (Green) Hiemstra of Woonsocket and Vincent “Vinny” Green (Charlotte) of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Julie Studer; and infant brother, Gerald John Pearson.
