The American Legion Auxiliary met Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Letcher Community Center. President Ruml called the meeting to order. Chaplain Pat Nelson led the opening prayer. Roll call was answered by five members. Treasurer Kathy Northrup read the treasurer’s report for the past few months.
The fall district meeting will be Sept. 30 in Wessington Springs. Social time is at 1 p.m., meeting at 2 p.m. No lunch will be served.
February in Oacoma will be the Midwinter Conference, with the date to be announced at a later time.
There is a new regional president, Elvira Moen. She was welcomed with a banquet in Codington County. Linda Holmes continues to be the District 6 Unit President
The poppies have been ordered and the order was increased in size from past years.
A donation of school supplies was made to Sanborn Central School.
The Auxiliary will continue to do the 10 for 10 hats and mittens donations to the school this fall/winter.
There was a discussion about the donation of dictionaries to the fourth graders, and it will be discussed more at a later date.
The National Convention was discussed. There is a possible dues increase coming in 2019. Also, possible new headquarters are to be determined by the executive committee.
Edith Moe gave the State Convention report from her attendance in June.
President Ruml gave Sherri Stekl the Americanism and poppy poster information to be distributed to the schools for student participation.
There are no Girls State nominees this year.
Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. will be the Veteran’s Day potluck for all veterans and their families at the Letcher Community Center.
Chaplain Nelson led the closing prayer.
The next meeting will be Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
