The Woonsocket Board of Education met in special session on January 22nd, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. in the Distance Learning Room of the Woonsocket School. Members attending were: Jason White, Lisa Snedeker, Todd Olinger, Jodi Doering and Neal Hiemstra. Others attending were Superintendent Rod Weber and Chris Selland. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
On a motion by Neal Hiemstra, seconded by Lisa Snedeker, the Board approved the meeting agenda with one additional item to come before the board. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on the elementary addition project with an emphasis on plans for financing the project.
Motion was made by Jodi Doering, with a second by Todd Olinger, to approve the low bid for general contractor for the elementary addition project with Tellinghuisen Construction with a base bid of $563,000.00 plus alternate #1 bid of $11,100.00 for a total bid of $574,100.00. Motion carried. Tellinghuisen Construction was also the general contractor for the Woonsocket High School project completed in 2007.
Neal Hiemstra moved to approve the base bid of $213,199.00 plus alternate bid #1 for $1,078.00 with Design/Build Contractor G&R Controls for the electrical, plumbing, and mechanical phase of the elementary addition project. Total bid amount is $214,277.00. Lisa Snedeker seconded the motion, and motion carried.
Total bid amount for the project is $788,377.00. Other required costs not included in the bid amounts are architect fees, consultant fees, construction testing fees, and possible asbestos abatement fees totaling an estimated $61,200.00 bringing the total project cost to approximately $849,577.00.
Motion to approve an additional 30 days of employee sick leave donations for Cathy Hegg was approved on a motion by Lisa Snedeker with a second by Neal Hiemstra. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Jodi Doering, with a second by Todd Olinger, to approve the salvage and surplus of approximately 150 library books to be disposed of as the district sees fit. Motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the January 22, 2018, special board meeting of the Woonsocket Board of Education was adjourned at 8:09 p.m. on a motion by Neal Hiemstra, with a second by Jodi Doering. Motion carried.
