Artesian First Lutheran and area women met at the church at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Jan. 23, for Bible study and quilting. Those in attendance were: Judi Larson, Jess Ludvik, Judy Wormstadt, Terri Moore, Wanda Effling, Jean Wormstadt and Jerolyn Dean.
The evening began with a short business meeting. Reports were presented and upcoming projects discussed.
The women were able to complete 12 full-size quilts shortly before Christmas and those were donated to the Abbott House and the Mitchell Area SafeHouse. Judy Wormstadt read thank you letters that have been received. In addition, baby quilts were given to the Plus One Project in Huron and one baby quilt was given to James and Jessica Orr for their new baby boy. Thank you to all the ladies who worked on these quilts.
The group also wishes to give special thanks to Jane Marten, who has dyed several used sheets that were donated by local motels. These brightly colored variegated sheets are then used for the backs of quilts or cut into squares resulting in some especially beautiful quilts.
Judi Larson was able to obtain Thrivent Action Money to purchase quilting supplies. An upcoming project will be making a special quilt to raise funds for the Lutheran Outdoors Quilt Auction to be held in August.
Bible study titled “The Fear Factor” based on Ephesians 1:11 was led by Judi Larson. Following the Lord’s Prayer and the Table Prayer, lunch was served by Jerolyn Dean. Jess Ludvik, and Terri Moore also brought treats.
