Blackhawks’ baseball season ends

By Nathan Hainy

The 2021 season did not go as planned for the Blackhawks.  They suffered six losses of three runs or less. “We just kept having one inning where we didn’t play as well as we could have,” said coach Nathan Hainy, “Each time it was more about mental focus than our effort or ability. These kids worked hard, but just kept coming up short.” Their season ended Tuesday night with a 6-1 loss to Redfield that brought their season record to 3-9. Like the majority of games, the Blackhawks had one inning that snowballed into five runs.  The Blackhawks took an early lead with a single run in the second.  Coen Harvey walked and promptly stole second base. Tyler Kole laid down an excellent sacrifice bunt to move Harvey to third.  Harvey would then score on a wild pitch for the one run lead. But the Blackhawks would never threaten to score the rest of the game. Carson Hainy and Draven Thompson had one hit each for the Blackhawks. Gerritt Brandenburg started pitching and lasted three innings. He gave up five runs (three earned) on three hits, and walked four. He was relieved by Harvey (two innings) and Tyler Kole (one inning).
