Blackhawk senior Nick Miller earned the distinction of the Daily Republic Athlete of the Week for his outstanding performances leading his team to their fifth and sixth wins this past week. His excellent leadership didn’t begin just last week. In the six games the boys have played, all wins, Miller has put up the team high in five of them. He is averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. In the home opener versus Sunshine Bible, Miller had 19 points; versus Tripp-Delmont/Armour 18 points/six rebounds; vs. Howard 12 points/eight rebounds; vs. Hitchcock/Tulare 28 points/12 rebounds; vs. Andes Central 18 points/8 rebounds and vs. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 23 points. Last season, the Hawks went on a 5-0 run before losing in the district semifinals. The coaches and players feel like they are carrying that confidence into this season, now that the team is used to playing together in this, the second year of the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket co-op. The Blackhawks were set to host a doubleheader versus Kimball/White Lake Tuesday night in Woonsocket, with high hopes that Miller and his team can pull out their seventh win of the season. They then go on to host JVC at Sanborn Central Thursday before heading into the 281 Tourney this weekend.
