The annual “Dig Pink” volleyball fundraiser event was held Monday night in Forestburg at Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s games versus Corsica/Stickney.
A silent auction, bake sale and barbecue meal were among the events.
Each volleyball player, including managers and statisticians played in honor of a cancer survivor or in memory of a loved one lost to the disease. The team members presented pink leis to each guest of honor.
The entire team played in honor of classmate and teammate Tanna Kingsbury, a freshman at Sanborn Central who is battling a rare bone cancer, Ewing Sarcoma.
Tanna dressed for the game and was able to warm up with the team. She headed back to Rochester, Minn. the next day for six weeks of radiation and more chemotherapy.
“Dig Pink” night helps raise funds for the You’ll Never Walk Alone foundation, which provides support to local breast cancer patients. It was founded in 2009 by breast cancer survivor Stacy Morgan.
