Eugene Fenske, 80, of Huron and formerly of Woonsocket, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitation was Tuesday, March 11. at Welter Funeral Home. Eugene Ernest Fenske, the son of Ernest and Christina (Jerke) Fenske, was born on July 10, 1933 in Beadle County. Eugene attended the Hegg Country School through the eighth grade.
He entered the United States Air Force on March 7, 1953 and was honorably discharged on March 7, 1957.
Eugene married Virginia “Gin” (Walz) on May 20, 1953 at Pipestone, Minn. They resided in Wichita Falls, Tex., Moses Lake and Ephrata, Wash. and rural Woonsocket. They moved to Huron in April 2010.
He farmed and worked at UBC in Huron and on road construction.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Virginia, Huron; daughter, Pamala (David) Zirpel, Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; in-laws, Clea and Clara Heisel, Ivan and Tilly Walz, Darlene Baltzer, and Gene and Donna VanDiepen; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest (1989) and Christina (2000); son, Gregory (1989); brother, Ervin (1993); in-laws, Cleone Fenske and Neda Fenske, Oscar Baltzer, Clarence and Helen Walz and Edwin and Bernie Walz.
