Modern Woodmen of America, represented by Stacey Malde, and the South Dakota Humanities Council provided area youth with a program to kick off the Summer Reading Program at the Woonsocket Community Library.
A noon lunch was enjoyed by the youth and adults in attendance. Helping with the event were Tina Luthi, Judy Brisbine, Pat Carsrud and Stacey Malde.
Jean Patrick, an author from Mitchell, captivated the children while dressed as a baseball player and telling the story about her book, “The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth”.
Members of the audience were invited to help act out this true story. The youth also enjoyed frosting and decorating sugar cookies to look like a baseball and then eating them.
About 75 children, young adults and adults are currently registered to participate in the reading program that runs until July 18. If you would like to join in the activity, visit the Woonsocket Community Library.
