Janet Kaye Mehlhaf, 72, of Hurley, died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 7, at Zion Reformed Church in Menno with burial at the Hurley Cemetery. Visitation was from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel in Hurley, and resumed at 6 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the church.
Janet Kaye Mehlhaf was born on Oct. 17, 1943, at Huron to Edwin and Lora (Orth) Bauer. She graduated from Alpena High School and Stewart School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls.
On Feb. 16, 1969, she was united in marriage to Harley Mehlhaf at Bethlehem Congregational Church in Alpena. They moved to a farm northwest of Hurley where she lived until she entered the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg, where she lived for the past 10 months because of health reasons.  Janet worked as a waitress in the café at Parker and Hurley for five years and cooked many meals for hired help on the farm. She was a member of the Zion Reformed Church in Menno.
She is survived by her husband, Harley; a son, Kent of Hurley; two daughters, Heidi of Corsica and Lisa (Daren) Lindeman of Parkston; five grandchildren; two sisters, Jo Ellen Kempf and Bonnie (Charles) Gibson, all of Mitchell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Raymond Kempf.
