The Berg family gathered for a reunion on July 3 at Twin Lakes Resort. About 75 were in attendance. The family is descended from Ole G. and Karn Sophia Berg, Tom and Caroline Berg and Carl and Clara Berg. The first two couples homesteaded in Blaine Township, Jerauld County, Dakota Territory in 1883. Ole and Karn had emigrated from Norway in 1854.
The highlight of the program was honoring all the veterans, alive and deceased, that are part of the Berg family. Earliest veteran honored was John Wolfe, who served in the Civil War and was the father of Clara Berg.
Other service persons honored were Johnny Lane Berg, Dean Faber, Shay Farrell, Jim Berg, Tom Berg, Wendy Larson, Linda and Greg Lamm, Vernon Berg, Mark Berg, Jeff Berg, Scot Berg, Jordan Berg, Richard Miller, Merrill Peterson and Clyde Kopfmann.
Recognition was given to: Mary Clare Johnson, traveled farthest from Mesa, Ariz.; Jim Berg, Papillion, Neb., most grandchildren; Colleen Swenson, eldest attending; oldest grandchild of Carl and Clara, Bonnie McIntosh, Brighton, Colo.; youngest grandchild, Susan Schmidt, Olathe, Kan.
Vicki L. Linke, Janis Weatherford and Joyce Brown, daughters of Ruth and Vernon Berg, organized the reunion. The next reunion is set for 2020.
