Jorden Dawn Hanson, 22, Woonsocket, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Mitchell. Visitation was Tuesday, May 6, with a prayer service at the Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
Jorden Dawn Hanson was born Nov. 13, 1991 to Allen Bowman and Michele (Johnson) Bowman in Yankton. She grew up in Woonsocket and graduated from Sanborn Central High School in 2010.
She loved children, country music, animals and the countryside. Jorden loved riding motorcycle with her best friend, Sean Baas. Jorden’s passion was to discourage bullying. She had the biggest heart and was always there for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her parents, Allen Bowman and Michele (Kevin) Allum; four brothers, Joel Bowman, Josh Adamson, Justin Bowman and Joe Allum; four sisters, Jessica Nichlous, Jami Hanson, Jena Hanson and Breanna Bowman; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather and step-grandfather.

Mary Cecelia (Moran) Tysdal, 104, of Mitchell died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell with her family at her side.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 3 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, May 2 with a scripture service at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Mary was born Nov. 7, 1909, the 10th of 11 children to Matthew and Mary Jane Moran in Woonsocket. She attended school in Woonsocket, was highly involved in academic and extra-curricular activities and graduated from high school in 1928.
After working as a legal assistant for a prominent Woonsocket attorney for a year, she attended Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell where she pursued a family tradition in the teaching profession. She began her teaching career in a Sanborn County country school and subsequently joined her bother John in McLaughlin, where she taught Native American children.
During World War II (1944) she traveled to Washington D.C. to marry her long-time sweetheart Lloyd Tysdal of Artesian and worked as a telephone operator and railroad ticket clerk while her husband was serving his country. They later returned to Mitchell and she devoted her life to her family for the next two decades.
Mary also returned to school at Dakota Wesleyan University and Northern State College to renew her teaching certificate and then taught second grade at Holy Spirit Catholic School until her retirement.
She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren and remained active in her community and church, expanding her social network to include friends of all ages. Mary was an avid Twins fan and at age 103 was honored as a special guest by the Twins organization and met her favorite player, Joe Mauer, on the field in Minneapolis. She was recognized by both the President and the Governor for achieving an exemplary life for all to emulate.
She is survived by her three children, James (Mary) Tysdal, Appleton, Wis., Mary Jo (Tyz) Thurston, Rapid City, and William (Jan) Tysdal, Rapid City; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other special people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Tysdal, and her son, Morris.
The family is requesting a memorial to Holy Spirit School in lieu of flowers.

Carney C. Nelson, 79, of Mitchell, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab one day before his 80th birthday.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, May 2 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with private family burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, May 1 at Will Funeral Chapel.
Carney Nelson was born to Norris and Alice (Adams) Nelson on April 29, 1934 in Charles Mix County. He graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1952 and from South Dakota State University in Brookings in 1957 with a degree in pharmacy.
He married Jean Taylor on May 7, 1955 and seven children were born of that marriage. His wife, Jean passed away in 1968. Carney married Maggie Moran on July 31, 1971 and one child was born of that marriage.
Carney began his pharmacy career in Platte at Eastman Drug. Later he worked at Scallin Drug in Mitchell and in 1962 he opened Sixth Avenue Pharmacy in the Tobin Clinic Building. Carney worked part time as consulting pharmacist at St. Joseph Hospital and became Director of Hospital Pharmacy in 1974. In 1970 he became a consultant and vendor for the Mitchell Retirement Nursing Home. He was also the consultant pharmacist to a 168-bed nursing home and developed a unit dose system. Carney owned the Tobin Clinic building with Dr. Weatherill until Avera Queen of Peace Hospital purchased it in 1990. He retired in 2004. All of his life, Carney also owned land and raised cattle at Lake Andes.
He is survived by his eight children, Laurie Nelson, Sioux Falls, Doug (Nancy) Nelson, Chamberlain, Robert (Marsha) Nelson, San Antonio, Tex., James (Amber) Nelson, Lake Andes, Ann Harless, Plankinton, Mary (Donn) Johnson, Mitchell, Jennifer Heidelberger, Worthington, Minn. and Melissa (Steve) Nelson, Sioux Falls; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Taylor Nelson; his wife, Maggie Moran Nelson; and his siblings, Nate (Florence) Nelson, Arnold (Laura) Nelson, LaVonne (Luther) Wigdahl, Robert (Mert) Nelson, Fern (Pat) Campbell and Gladys (Adolph) Sejnoha.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Carney’s name.
