4-H

The Town ‘N Kountry Kids Red Crew 4-H Club met on Sept. 18 at the Community Center in Woonsocket.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Aaron Linke. The flag pledge was led by Morgan Schmiedt and the 4-H pledge was led by Eli White. Roll call was led by Nathan Linke with the question, “Favorite memory of State Fair” and answered by 27 members.
The secretary’s report was read by Nathan and approved as read. There was no treasurer’s report, as there were no transactions.
Bailey Feistner and London Metzger gave reports on 4-H camp. Kaylee White, Morgan and Collin Schmiedt, and Brooklyn Swenson gave reports on State Fair.
Under Old Business, the club talked about setting a Skyzone date in November.  They worked on filling the barrel setting shifts on Sept. 23-24. The club went over ideas for National 4-H week, and discussed what needed to get done to turn in the record books by Oct. 1.
Under New Business, the club talked about ideas for a community service project. Hope Baysinger presented a “Stuff the Turkey” idea, and the club decided to move forward with the project. Hope, Bailey and Wyatt Feistner, Shaun and Nick Snedeker and Lane Burkel were appointed to a committee to organize the project and will meet at the October meeting.
After the meeting, Collin and Morgan gave a talk on “Rethink Your Drink,” about how much sugar is in common drinks. Spens Schlicht presented a talk about his dog, a Great Dane. Braxton Gentles gave a talk on how to properly show a cat. Devyn Brooks gave a talk about his construction Legos exhibit under the Hobbies & Collections area. Charles Hunter gave a presentation on Katahdin sheep.  Sutton Senska presented a demonstration on making fishing lures, and Lane Burkel did an illustrated talk on the Corn Palace.

The Town ‘N Kountry Kids 4-H Club Blue Group met on Sept. 16 at the Letcher Community Center.
The meeting was called to order by President Cole Moody. Pledges were led by Caleb Kneen and Parker Ettswold. Thirteen members answered the roll call topic “Favorite NFL Team.” The secretary’s report was read by Ashlee Hanson and was approved.
Dean Hanson made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Keaton Fridley, motion carried.
Ellie Evans reported that grandparent cards were sent out, and she will have an updated list at the next meeting.
Old Business: The flag pole for the 4-H grounds will be put up in the spring. The County Commissioners will be contacted on placement of the pole. The club will work concessions at the Horse Project Day at the 4-H building on Oct. 2. The event starts at 1 p.m.
New business: Record books are due by Sept. 30 to the office in Woonsocket. National 4-H Week committee consists of Cole, Madi and Chloe. National 4-H Week is Oct. 2-8.
Talks and Demonstrations were given by Dean Hanson – “How to Make Buttery Ranch Pretzels,” Ashlee Hanson – “The Different Functions of a Sewing Machine,” and Toby Kneen – “How to Dehydrate Apples.”
Next month’s meeting will be held Oct. 16. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. in the Letcher Community Center. New members are encouraged to attend.

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Ellie Evans. Pledges were led by Kara Wormstadt and Alexis Kelly. Seventeen members answered roll call. The secretary and treasurer reports were read by Brady Larson. Committee reports were given by Ellie on grandparents and on the BBQ ticket donations.  It was discussed to purchase the tickets earlier to give the committee more time to decide who will receive the free tickets.
Old business: Peach sales were discussed. Teagen Moody reported that the fun day was a success, with 54 people attending. The money obtained from the pie contest and selling snow cones would be used to purchase a flag pole and flags for the 4-H building. If extra money is available, it will be used to make building improvements. Motion was made and carried to purchase a 4-H flag, also.
New business:  State Fair exhibits would be due to the office by Aug. 26; baking and horticulture would be due Aug. 26 before 4 p.m. Record books are due Sept. 30. The forms are at sanborncounty.com. Recognition event will be held on Nov. 12.  Bryce Larson made a motion to serve lunch at a horse event on Oct. 2 at the 4-H grounds, starting at 1 p.m. Keaton Fridley seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Demonstrations were given by Caleb Kneen on Shooting Sports/Parts of a BB Gun, and  Toby Kneen on Dehydrating Apples.
The next meeting will be held on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Letcher Community Center.  For lunch, each family is to bring a snack that has apples included.
Members wrote letters to their adopted grandparents telling about Achievement Days.
