4-H

The South Dakota State 4-H Rodeo Finals took place in Ft. Pierre over the weekend, and Tanner Christian and Aubrey Moody both brought home more awards for their outstanding performances.

To start, Christian competed in both sessions of mini-bull riding. In the first session, Friday night/Saturday morning, he placed fourth overall, earning himself a water bottle. In the second session, Saturday night/Sunday morning, he placed first overall and earned a belt buckle. With a combined score for both sessions, Christian finished tying for second place, with just one point difference from the championship. This earned him another beautiful buckle for all his work this summer.

Moody also competed at the State 4-H Rodeo in Ft. Pierre, and she ended her very successful 4-H rodeo season as Reserve Champion Breakaway Roper, which put her as second in the state in that event and earned her another beautiful buckle to add to her collection.

These kids are not for sale. It’s actually the wood chips they are sitting on that are not for sale, but they look like they are enjoying the view from atop the pile. Pictured from left to right are Bailey Feistner, Henry Feistner, Shiloh Senska, Memphis Moody, Tyann Eddy and Summer Senska.

One of the highlights of the Sanborn County Achievement Days is the Ag Olympics that were added to the lineup of events just a few years ago and have become more popular every year. This year’s Olympic events included bale rolling, leaky bucket water relay, a frozen T-shirt contest (they had frozen T-shirts tied together, and they had to untie the shirts and put them on), a goat chase to remove a tie from his tail and a relay where team members were strapped to boards before needing to race together as a group to one end of the arena and back.

The Cloverbuds had their own Olympic events, including stickhorse races and chasing a smaller goat around the arena to remove a tie from his tail.

Considering the Sanborn County Achievement Days just took place this past weekend, Aug. 5-7, and they were packed full with events and entries, results were not available at press time of this issue. Please stay tuned to next week’s edition for results and more photos.

On Monday, Aug. 2, the Woonsocket City Summer Rec Program held their end of summer party for the softball and baseball players, coaches and parents with a cookout and awards ceremony at Lake Prior. Coach Armando Rodriguez welcomed everyone to the gathering and remarked on the successes that each team had throughout the season before handing out the awards. This year’s awards honored three players from each team’s age group with Most Valuable Player (MVP), Most Improved Player (MIP) and the Ace Award for the individual who displayed hard work and a positive attitude all season. The awardees received a t-shirt in honor of their achievement.
