The Sanborn County 4-Hers showed off a year’s worth of work and learning this past weekend at their annual Achievement Days event in Forestburg.
The event kicked off Thursday, Aug. 10 with static exhibit entry and judging and a bake sale.
Friday was a big day with the dog and cat show in the morning, rabbit and poultry show in the afternoon and burgers, SDSU ice cream and Ag Olympics in the evening.
Saturday began with the annual area business-sponsored community pancake breakfast, followed by the livestock shows running throughout the day. The Sanborn County Health Show and pie contest was held in the afternoon and the event ended with the community barbecue, Fashion Revue Program and Parade of Purples.

A lot of time and practice goes into preparing your horse for 4-H events. It involves many hours of riding, grooming, studying event patterns and practicing. Members of 4-H look forward to the chance to display that hard work and participate in horse shows.
Four Sanborn County 4-Hers recently had the opportunity to participate on July 17-19 at the 2017 South Dakota State 4-H Horse Show being held in Huron at the State Fairgrounds.

Sanborn County 4-H Shooting Sports recorded a successful year in 2017, with many new shooters, 31 county records set, and 67 shooters qualifying for the State Shoot in 168 events.
County Shoot placings were decided over eight match shoots.  The top scores from the match shoots were used to determine the first, second and third place finishes for the county level.
