The regular meeting of Unit 29 American Legion Auxiliary met on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. in the Community Center. President Dawn Rassel led the opening ceremonies.

Mary Regynski read the May 28 minutes, which were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given by Barb Maurice and accepted.

A newsletter from the newly elected District 6 President, Theresa Maeschen of Mitchell, was given by President Dawn. The new President of the Department of American Legion Auxiliary is Jeannine Loesch of Ft. Pierre. The District 6 Fall meeting will be held Sept. 23 in Huron at the Crossroads. Social hour is at 12 p.m. The meeting will follow at 1 p.m.

The American Legion Post 29 will be hosting a Poker Tournament on Oct. 20 in the Community Center. The Auxiliary will be serving a meal at the event.

Membership cards have been received and the dues have been raised by $3 this year for Senior members and $1.25 for Junior members.

The yearly obligations and a Special Olympics donation will be sent to Department Headquarters.

A donation will be given to the Community Center in appreciation for the use of the Center.

Following the closing ceremonies, President Dawn adjourned the meeting.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. Cookies for the PVHC Bingo in September will be furnished by Judy Brisbine and Bobbi Jo White.

Bible Study and quilting was held on Sept. 4, at the Artesian First Lutheran Church.  Those in attendance included Deanna Dean, Joyce Olson, Terry Moore, Judi Larson, Judy Wormstadt, and Jerolyn Dean.

Following the business meeting, Judy Wormstadt led the Bible Study titled “Let Us Pray” based on Psalm 19.  

The quilt that the ladies made for the Lutheran Outdoors Quilt Auction received a blue ribbon and Best of Show at the Sanborn County Achievement Days. It was also on display at the South Dakota State Fair and is now available to be purchased through the Lutheran Outdoors online quilt auction.  Thank you to Pastor Josh for taking the quilt to Sioux Falls for us.  

The baby items purchased with Penny Power money have been delivered to Plus One in Huron. In addition to the clothing items, there were six baby blankets, 14 baby quilts and a cash donation from the women’s group. Thanks to Judy Wormstadt for delivering all of the items. 

WWTS (Walking With the Savior) has resumed meeting on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:45 p.m. now that school has started. Twenty children are registered to attend. All children from kindergarten age to sixth grade are welcome to participate. 

The Annual Medary Conference retreat will be in Badger on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  It is always an enjoyable day. Make plans now to attend and contact Judy Wormstadt for more info and carpool information. 

The ladies prayed the Lord’s Prayer and the table blessing before enjoying a delicious lunch served by Judy Wormstadt.

The gals finished the evening by working on quilts.   

Artesian area WWTS started the new year by meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Artesian First Lutheran. The youth assembled 20 school kits for Lutheran World Relief. Items for the kits were purchased from Penny Power monies collected by youth at each 11 a.m. church service since the beginning of January. Gently used baby items and new diapers were also purchased with Penny Power monies and donated to the Plus One Guidance Center in Huron.
