Susan Kae Anderson, 55, of Bruce, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, at Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 5, at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Bruce. Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 4, with a prayer service at Grace Free Lutheran Church. Rude’s Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

Susan Kae (Spader) Anderson was born on April 12, 1966, at the Public Health Hospital in Charles Mix County. At three days of age, she was welcomed into the Darrel and Joan (Feldhaus) Spader household as a foster child. Sue was adopted by the Spaders on April 2, 1968.

Sue grew up on Hayland Angus Ranch by Fedora, where she attended school at Howard until her graduation in 1984. After graduation, Sue continued her education at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, where she received multiple degrees. Sue was an accountant, an insurance agent at State Farm, an office manager at Dust Control LLC, a guardian for her brother, Dana, a homemaker, and a mother.

Sue and her two sons became active in Boy Scouts, where she met Jeff Anderson. Sue and Jeff were married on Jan. 10, 2010, and Sue gained two stepchildren, Adam and Emily.

Sue loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing. As a child, she could often be found playing outside and riding her horse, Kit. More recently, she could be found working on her garden and canning her harvest. Sue also enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing, and riding side-by-side.

Sue is survived by her husband, Jeff; sons, Cody Behlings and Dustin Bothwell; stepchildren, Adam Anderson (Jena) and Emily (Jordan) Goulet; three grandchildren; father, Darrel Spader; siblings, Sherryl (Mike) Rankin of Woonsocket, Joe (Carla) Spader, Todd Spader, and Dana Spader; mother-in-law, Marjorie Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Spader; her grandparents, Bernard and Mary Feldhaus and John and Katie Spader; and her father-in-law, Richard Anderson.

Daniel Scott

Fedora

Daniel Scott, 73, of Fedora, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. 

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 5, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service.

Daniel Lee Scott was born on Sept. 14, 1948, to Howard Scott and Goldie Lee at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell. He attended grade school in Fedora, where his mother was a teacher and where he was active in local 4-H. Dan graduated from high school in 1966 as a member of the last class to graduate from Fedora High School. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota in 1970 and a master’s degree in mathematics in 1976. He taught math in the Mitchell Community School District and served as the President of the Mitchell Education Association.

The farm at Fedora was Dan’s home for his entire life. He enjoyed the land, livestock, hunting, and the Minnesota Twins. He was also fortunate to have traveled the world with friends.

Dan is survived by his brother, David (Molly) of Spencer, Iowa; two nephews; one niece; and many cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

Perry Strombeck

Keystone

Perry Strombeck, 82, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, at his home.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to designate memorials to the Keystone Congregational Church, PO Box 462, Keystone, SD  57751. Kirk Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Perry was born July 16, 1939, in Mt. Vernon to Perry Francis and Ann Strombeck. His father died when Perry was eight years old. He lived in Mt. Vernon and graduated from high school, where he made a name for himself running track. Perry went to Yankton College on a track scholarship and continued to be successful in the quarter mile and relay events. He met his future wife, Gretchen Jamison, early in his sophomore year. After his junior year, Perry and Gretchen married on Aug. 6, 1960. Upon graduation, Perry began teaching and coaching at a junior high school in Yankton. Their first son was born in August 1961. While his wife and baby were still in the Yankton hospital, Perry’s Guard Unit (115th Signal Corp) was activated to prepare for the “Cuban Missile Crisis.” During the first week of October 1961, the convoy left Yankton for Ft. Riley, Kan. to start their training. His family moved with the unit.

Perry and his family returned to Yankton in the fall of 1962. Perry spent 32 years with the New York Life Insurance Company, first as an agent, then going into management where he was responsible for hiring and training new agents. During his career, he was the managing partner for the Lincoln, Oklahoma City, Ft. Worth, and Omaha offices. He and Gretchen retired in 1994 and moved to their home in the Black Hills. It was at this time they began to develop and manage motels. Their interests included horses, mules, Cowboy Mounted Shooting, international travel, hunting, politics, friends, family, and their church.

Perry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gretchen; four children, Perry Jamison Strombeck (Dora) of McCook, Valerie Lunka (Mike) of Denver, Colo., Clay Strombeck of Rapid City, and Corey Strombeck of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Marlys Schmitz of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
