Harold Hilton

Mitchell

Harold “Harry” Elmer Hilton, 93, of Mitchell, died Monday, March 1, 2021, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket.

A private family visitation and graveside service are planned.  A separate celebration of Harry’s life will take place at a later date.

Harry was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Beresford to Edgar and Vera (Kellogg) Hilton. He joined the Army in March of 1947, where he received his GED. 

On Sept. 6, 1952, he married Mary Jane Schmitz at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Together, they raised eight children. Harry worked many years as a service industry employee for Lakeside Dairy, Sunbeam, Pan ‘O Gold, S&H Green Stamps and Terry’s Propane. He co-owned and ran South Side Texaco Station, café and bulk plant for 10 years. After retiring, he returned to work part-time for Queen of Peace as a courier for eight years.

Harry was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Lakeview Men’s Club, the Elks and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, pheasant hunting, and ballroom dancing with his wife, Mary Jane. Harry was an avid sports fan and appreciated spending time with family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Jane (Orie) Voight, Ann Hilton, Mike (Brenda) Hilton, Jim (Jan) Hilton, Mary (Brian) Nethercott, Kathy (Kelly) Glassett, Bill (Pati) Hilton, and John Hilton; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Earl, Darrell, Donna and Shirley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to John Paul II Catholic Elementary School in Mitchell are preferred.

Loris Pueppke

Columbus, Neb.

Loris Winona Pueppke, 97, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, in Columbus, Neb. 

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Will Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will begin one hour prior.  Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

Loris was born March 21, 1923, to Harry and Hazel (Godber) Koepke in rural Letcher. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.  She attended a one room country school for her elementary education, graduated from Letcher High School and went on to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings and Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell where she received her teaching certificate.  She taught elementary school for a few years in Letcher.

On May 12, 1949, she married Lloyd D. Pueppke of Mitchell at the Zion Lutheran Church.  They made their home on a farm north of Mitchell.  Loris was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and involved in church activities.  She was also a 60-year member of the Wonder Workers Extension Club.

Loris is survived by three children, Dianne (Rev. Richard) Pingel of Olathe, Kansas, Bruce Pueppke of Mitchell, and Marilyn (Tom) Tworek of Columbus, Neb.; seven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren with one on the way; her sister-in-law, Margaret Pueppke; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years; a great-granddaughter, Karis Pingel; and a daughter-in-law, Shauna Pueppke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Evelyn Wormstadt, 98, of Huron, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at the Firesteel Healthcare Community in Mitchell.

Her private family funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Iroquois. Burial to follow will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at the Kuhler Funeral Home with a prayer service and time of sharing at 6:30 p.m.

Evelyn was born Feb. 4, 1923, to John and Carolyn (Johnson) Freeburg near Carpenter in their home. Her siblings were Julia, Orville, Ida, Ted and Erma. Evelyn attended country school her elementary years and went to Huron and Doland her high school years. She graduated from Huron High School. After high school, she went to Northwest Business College in Huron for one year. After her schooling, she worked at the Traveler’s Insurance Company in Huron.

Evelyn married Eldro Wormstadt on March 15, 1945, in Huron, and they lived and farmed on the Wormstadt homestead farm north of Artesian until 1979. At that time, they retired and moved to Huron. They were blessed with two sons, Wenton and Lowell. Eldro passed away in March of 1980.

Evelyn was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Iroquois during her married years. After moving to Huron, she got involved in doing a lot of volunteer work at two of the elementary schools, the senior center and also the Huron Regional Medical Center. She received the honor of HRMC’s Volunteer of the Year in 2005. At that time, she had clocked 1,598 hours since 1987 when her volunteer activities began there. Evelyn loved the farm and her family.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her sons, Wenton (Jean) Wormstadt and Lowell (Judy) Wormstadt; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldro; and all five of her siblings.
