John Baysinger

Woonsocket

John Baysinger, 53, of Woonsocket, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at his home under hospice care. 

Visitation was Friday, Feb. 23, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held in Woonsocket around July 4. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Forestburg at a later date.

John Paul Baysinger was born Dec. 15, 1970, to Verald and Patty (Hopkins) Baysinger in Huron. He attended Woonsocket High School and graduated in 1990. John then attended Mitchell Tech for ag business. John worked at Baysinger Honey Farm. He was proud to be a part of the third-generation family farm.

John was blessed with his son, Daylyn, in 1991, daughter, Alyx, in 1994, and son, Cooper, when he met the love of his life, Jenni Greenway, in 2010.

John was a Woonsocket City Council member and lived in Woonsocket his entire life. He was also a supporter of 4-H and a member of the Sioux Honey Association and South Dakota Beekeepers Association.

John enjoyed spending time with friends and having a cold one; he never met a stranger. John was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He had an infectious smile and grin and was loved by all.

John is survived by his fiancé, Jenni Greenway; son, Daylyn (Andrea) Baysinger of Woonsocket; daughter, Alyx (Deandre) Baysinger of Prairieville, La.; son, Cooper Goldammer of Woonsocket; three grandchildren, Braylyn, Marlee, and Asher; parents, Verald and Patty; siblings, Chris Baysinger and Amber Baysinger, both of Woonsocket; sister-in-law, Heather Reimer; nieces and nephews, Sarah, Megan, Mason, Miles, and Lily; and his best buddy, Jayda.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Glen and Marjorie Hopkins; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Leona Baysinger; and uncles, Ronnie Baysinger, Philip Benson, and Jerry Elstran.

John Wunder

Howard

John Leroy Wunder of Howard, 93, passed away on Feb. 23, 2024, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket after a difficult battle with dementia.  

Memorial services will be Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m., at Willoughby Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery with Military Honors. 

John Leroy Wunder was born Aug. 2, 1930, to George and Anna (Hueners) in the Canova Hospital. John attended country grade school and graduated from Howard High School in 1948. He immediately started his lifelong career in farming. John met Joyce (Buttenob) at the Paradise movie theater in Howard and married her on Oct. 14, 1951.

In March 1952, he was called up to serve in the Korean Conflict as a scraper operator, building roads, gun emplacements, and garbage dumps a mile behind the front lines, until being honorably discharged in October 1953. He returned to diversified farming with his wife and raised two sons on the farm north of Howard until downsizing and semi retiring to take care of his ailing wife, Joyce, until her passing in 1995. 

John returned to farming again, this time raising “Wunder’s Golden Flax” for its health benefits with Virginia Petersen, whom he married on Dec. 27, 1997. Together, they grew the business from local customers to national food chain distribution. When failing health and the relentless lure of scammers took their toll, they sold the farm and moved into Howard. Virginia passed in 2019. John moved into the Prairie View Healthcare Center in October 2023.

John was a member of Grace Communion International Church Sioux Falls, where he was an ordained preaching elder. He gave sermons and was blessed to perform weddings for one of his sons and two of his granddaughters.

John was survived by his sons, Colin (Jill) of Howard and Lee of Astoria, Ore.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and families.

John was preceded in death by his wives, Joyce and Virginia; parents, George and Anna; brothers and their wives, Robert (Agnes) and Richard (Nadine); and sister, Wilma (Howard).

Debra Hines

Mitchell

Debra Hines, 68, of Mitchell, died on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at her home under hospice care. 

Funeral services were on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Assembly of God Church in Mitchell. Burial was at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements were by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Debra “Deb” Hines was born Nov. 14, 1955, to LeNor and Arlene (Einck) Dammann in Heidelberg, Germany. She attended kindergarten through high school in Wessington Springs and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. Deb worked as a CNA at nursing homes and a cook at elementary schools in Mitchell.

Deb was united in marriage to Ernest Hines on Jan. 12, 1974, in Wessington Springs.

Deb had a huge heart full of love, beautiful inside and out. She was blessed to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary to her husband, Ernie, on Jan. 12, of this year.

Deb loved to decorate inside and outside for every holiday. She enjoyed being with family. She was involved with the Assembly of God church for many years.

Deb is survived by her husband, Ernest; mother, Arlene; sons, Chad of Mitchell, Chance of Mankato, Minn., and Justin of Mitchell; daughter, Chandi Dreyer of Mitchell; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Stan Dammann of Mitchell, Steve Dammann of Woonsocket, and Sheri Gubbins of Littleton, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her father, LeNor, and brother, Chuck Dammann.
