Alyce Klinkel

De Smet

Alyce Klinkel, 90, of De Smet, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in De Smet.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the De Smet Community Church. Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 5-7 p.m. at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. Burial will be at a later date.
Alyce Klinkel was born Feb. 3, 1927, in De Smet to John and Wubena (Boss) Smith. She graduated from De Smet High School in 1945 and worked for K&K Store and the ASC Office in De Smet.
She was united in marriage to Walter Klinkel Nov. 30, 1947. The couple owned Klinkel Tavern from 1958 to 1977, and they enjoyed traveling and taking bus tours.
She was a longtime active member of De Smet Community Church and was active in the 8&40 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Klinkel of De Smet; one sister, Gale (Frances) Minier of De Smet; brother-in-law, Don Druse of Woonsocket; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; five brothers and six sisters.

Janette A. Wermers, 84, of Mitchell, died Thursday, Nov. 9, in Prairie View Healthcare Community at Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 13, at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Janette Ann Wermers, daughter of Albert and Mary (Thill) Metzger, was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Mount Vernon. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell.
Janette was united in marriage with Alvin Wermers on Nov. 15, 1952.
She was a bookkeeper for Whetstine Plumbing and Heating and Merriman Oil Company, and occasionally did food demos at the grocery store. You may have seen her helping Alvin put bread on the shelves in the grocery stores, as they lived their life together as one, no matter what the adventure would be. Janette loved her family and enjoyed being with family and friends.
Janette is survived by her daughter, Cindee (Richard) Westendorf; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers-in-law, Bob Wermers, Don (Verla) Wermers, and Del Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin Wermers; a son, Randy Wermers; a grandson, Christopher Wermers; and a sister, Jen (Metzger) Wilson.
Arrangements were with Will Funeral Chapel.

Gwendolyn Zoss

Woonsocket

Gwendolyn Kay Zoss, 80, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at the Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, with burial at 1:30 p.m., at Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher. Visitation was from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Gwendolyn Kay Zoss, daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Moore) Wittstruck, was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Mitchell. She attended school in Mitchell and worked at the Town House Café for many years.
Kay was united in marriage with Duane Byrd and had four children, David, Rodney, Sandra and Blaine. Later, she moved to Letcher and was united in marriage with Robert Zoss. The couple farmed and raised watermelons.
Kay spent many hours attending to her flower and vegetable gardens, as they were her passion. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always there to help out with anything.
Kay is survived by her children, Rodney (Shelby) Byrd, Sandra (Mark) Brueske, and Blaine Byrd; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Byrd; two husbands, Duane Byrd and Robert Zoss; her parents; two sisters, Mary and Nita; and three brothers, Don, Johnny and Jerry.
