Gwendolyn Kay Zoss, 80, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at the Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, with burial at 1:30 p.m., at Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher. Visitation was from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Gwendolyn Kay Zoss, daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Moore) Wittstruck, was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Mitchell. She attended school in Mitchell and worked at the Town House Café for many years.
Kay was united in marriage with Duane Byrd and had four children, David, Rodney, Sandra and Blaine. Later, she moved to Letcher and was united in marriage with Robert Zoss. The couple farmed and raised watermelons.
Kay spent many hours attending to her flower and vegetable gardens, as they were her passion. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always there to help out with anything.
Kay is survived by her children, Rodney (Shelby) Byrd, Sandra (Mark) Brueske, and Blaine Byrd; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Byrd; two husbands, Duane Byrd and Robert Zoss; her parents; two sisters, Mary and Nita; and three brothers, Don, Johnny and Jerry.
