Douglas Janzing

Mitchell

Douglas Janzing, 54, of Mitchell, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at his home.

Funeral Mass was held Monday, July 24, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian. Visitation was Sunday, July 23, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer service.

Douglas Raymond Janzing was born on Oct. 24, 1968, to Ray and Charmaine (Grassel) Janzing in Huron. He grew up on the family farm north of Artesian. After graduating from Artesian High School in 1986, Doug went on to study business at Dakota State in Madison and Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell. After college, Doug worked at Toshiba and helped on the family farm; he did work at some other businesses, but most recently, Doug was back working at Toshiba. He loved working in the warehouse.

In 2005, Doug met Kim Andrews. They were married in 2006. To this union, a daughter, Maddie Jo, was born.

Doug loved spending time with his family and friends, going on adventures with Maddie and attending her school activities, hunting, hanging out at the farm, playing games (the card game Euchre was a favorite), and playing pranks on people.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Maddie Jo of Mitchell; former spouse, Kim of Mitchell; three sisters, Cindi Janzing (Dennis Eckmann) of Huron, Laurie (Ed) Grassel of Artesian, and Debra (Jeff) Hunking of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts.

Mark Fuerst

Wessington Springs

Mark Fuerst, 59, of Wessington Springs, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his home with his family by his side, under hospice care.

His funeral service was held Saturday, July 22, at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. Burial followed in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs. Visitation was held prior to the service on Saturday at the United Methodist Church.

Mark James Fuerst was born Sept. 29, 1963, to Gerald and Susan (Ball) Fuerst in Wessington Springs. He grew up in the Wessington Springs area and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1982. On Sept. 6, 2003, Mark married Shelley Brandenburg. 

Mark worked at and managed the grain elevator in Alpena for 32 years, working closely and building lasting relationships with many. He loved raising cattle and teaching the next generations. Mark enjoyed being a dad and grandpa and attending any activity his children or grandchildren participated in.

Mark is survived by his wife, Shelley Fuerst; two daughters, Kandy (Doug Jr.) Flowers and Traci (Ryder) Schweitzer; six grandchildren; two sisters, Julie Williams and Sandy Kopfmann; two sisters-in-law, Leanne (Duane) Kopfmann and Carla (Rick) LeVeque; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Susan Fuerst; his parents-in-law, Mervyn and Betty Brandenburg; one sister in infancy, Geraldine; and one brother-in-law, Lonnie Williams.

Joy Pawlowski, 87, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Tieszen Memorial Home at Marion.

Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 28, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., Thursday, July 27, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present from 5-7 p.m., Thursday evening.

Joy Bell Kraft was born March 20, 1936, to George and Lucille (Cobb) Kraft at Mitchell. She grew up on a farm in Aurora County. In 1954, the family moved to Wessington Springs.

On Sept. 22, 1956, Joy married Eldon Pawlowski at Wessington Springs. For eight years, they made their home in Woonsocket, until Eldon was transferred to Huron for work. To this union two children were born. Joy enjoyed tending to her yard and flower gardens.

Joy is survived by her children, Judy (Michael) Law and John (Vicki) Pawlowski; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Lang and Alice (Clarence) Knapp; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Bobby Kraft and Richard Kraft; and her father-in-law, Theodore Pawlowski.
