School

Another egg-cellent adventure was had in third grade as Audra Scheel came to the classroom to share her knowledge of eggs and the chick hatching process. The students patiently awaited each classroom visit where she would lead an activity and teach more about the hatching process. The excitement loomed more each day as we monitored the eggs for 21 days until hatch day finally arrived! To conclude our hatching adventure, Bailey Feistner came in with a special guest rooster to share more about raising chickens and her passion for 4-H. We were so thankful for all the time and energy put into this project and giving us the opportunity to learn from the eggsperts!

On Monday, May 2, the kindergarten and first-grade students at Woonsocket Elementary invited their male role models to the school to show their appreciation for how they have influenced their lives in a positive way. The following Monday, May 9, they did the same thing for female role models in their lives. They did activities with them including fishing and reading with the males and coloring or reading with the females. The students sang songs in small groups for the ladies, and they served snacks at both sessions. The kindergarten class is taught by Mrs. Kylie Pauly, and the first graders are taught by Mrs. Kacee Polly.

The best and brightest from the Class of 2022 were recognized for their academic achievements during their high school career.

On Monday, May 9, Governor Kristi Noem and the Associated School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD) honored students who were identified as the top one percent of their senior class, from the state’s Public, Private and Tribal/BIE schools as part of the 32nd Annual Academic Excellence Recognition event.

Students designated as their high school’s honoree(s) received a certificate, South Dakota pin and the opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with Governor Noem.

Dayton Easton was honored from Sanborn Central, and Brooke Doering was recognized from Woonsocket High School.

“I am just so proud of you and all your academic accomplishments. I think it’s phenomenal the way you’ve applied yourself,” Gov. Noem shared with students during the event, adding the state is “committed to you and what you’d like to do in your future.”

“We want you to achieve the highest level of your dreams.”

ASBSD President Eric Stroeder added the hope is for these special students to share their talents with the people of South Dakota in the future.

“Many of us hope you will stay in South Dakota and become the next generation of leaders for our state,” Stroeder said.

“We need your talents and skills. We need your ideas and creativity. We need you to continue to push our great state forward.”
