On Monday, May 2, Woonsocket High School’s National Honor Society inducted eight new members at their annual induction ceremony held in Woonsocket’s gym. The new members are: Jevin Goertz, Rain Swenson, Jaycee Baruth, Carter Christian, Jeritt Kokesh, Kennadie Ochsner, Kamryn Ochsner and Isaiah Schultz. In conjunction with National Pet Week, May 1-7, the Sanborn Central Middle School student council sponsored a pet photo contest. Students in grades PreK-12 were asked to bring a picture of their pet.  The pictures were displayed in the school hallway.  The entire student body voted for their favorites.

Senior Teya Moody and her dog, Annie,  won for the most creative/funniest category.  Fourth grade student Liam Applegarth and his dog, Penny, won for the most adorable category.  Finally, sixth grade student Emma Alger contributed the most unusual picture of her pet snake, Michael.

Twenty-one sixth grade students were honored on Tuesday, May 3, at the D.A.R.E. graduation held at the Woonsocket School gym. All the graduates received a certificate of achievement and a shirt for finishing the program. Their D.A.R.E. educator, Captain Johnson from the Huron Police Department, spoke a few words about the program and what the students learn from D.A.R.E. Three students were chosen to read their D.A.R.E. essays that are required to graduate from the program. This year’s essay winners were Braylyn Baysinger, Lincoln Diede and Valerie Button.
