The SCW ladies had a great week of volleyball winning both contests they had last week. They started with hosting the Iroquois/Lake Preston (ILP) Sharks on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Sanborn Central. The game went to four sets, but the Lady Blackhawks took the match with set scores of 25-14, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-16.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, the SCW ladies traveled to Kimball to take on the Kimball/White Lake (KWL) WiLdKats. Regardless of season records, the matchup between the WiLdKats and the Lady Blackhawks is always a competitive one, and this year’s was no exception. They played four close sets, but the Lady Blackhawks declawed those WiLdKats in the end with set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-22.

The Lady Blackhawks improved to 16-7 on the year going into their game against fourth-ranked Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday, Oct. 22. They play their last home game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 25 against Bridgewater-Emery in Forestburg, and they then have their last game of the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 29 against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton in Plankinton. Post season play starts with Regions the following week.

In what can only be described as a hard-fought battle, the WWSSC Blackhawks went to Mt. Vernon to take on the MVP Titans and made them earn every point they made. Although the Blackhawks worked well as a united front on both sides of the ball, a couple of missed opportunities for extra points allowed the Titans to give the Blackhawks just their second loss of the season with a final score of 20-22.

After the game, Coach Schmitz had this to say, “This was a very tough game. The Blackhawks fought hard to the very end. We had some opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on enough of them. The kids will bounce back for the first round of the playoffs. We took another step forward as a program. I am very proud of this team and can’t wait to see what we do next.”

The first round of playoffs will take place tonight (Thursday) in Aberdeen at Northern State University’s football field. The Blackhawks will play Aberdeen Roncalli starting at 7 p.m. The second round of play is scheduled for the night of Halloween, so stay tuned to learn when, where and who will be making “trick” plays for the “treat” of a quarterfinals victory.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, the junior varsity added another win in two sets to their record when they traveled to Armour and overpowered the Tripp-Delmont/Armour (TDA) Nighthawks with set scores of 25-21 and 25-14.

The Lady Blackhawks hosted Iroquois/Lake Preston in Forestburg on Tuesday, and they play Kimball/White Lake tonight (Thursday) in Kimball. Their next game will be on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Woonsocket for Dig Pink Night against Hitchcock-Tulare. All games are livestreamed online for any fans out there who would like to watch remotely.
