Burning heat has been the norm this summer, but this week it took on another meaning for local firefighters.
Three fire calls in five days have kept the Woonsocket volunteers busy during the past weeks high-90º heat.
They were called out Friday afternoon to a grass fire at Mark and Lisa Snedekers followed on Saturday to the Jon and Susan Kalb place near Twin Lakes for a truck and grass fire.
Tuesday afternoon, even after receiving nearly an inch of rain, the night before, a dump fire at the Mike and Yvonne Brosnan farm got out of hand catching onto trees and debris in a nearby shelterbelt.
Temps are forecast to finally dip below the 90s into the 70s and 80s this week. Tuesday night we received another scattered storm bringing varying amounts of rain to the area.
A reminder – due to the extreme drought conditions, the county-wide burn ban is still in effect despite the recent rainfall.
