The fall sports season begins this Friday, Aug. 30 with the Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks traveling to White Lake to battle Kimball/White Lake. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
The boys will be at home the following Friday, Sept. 6, as they play host to Mt. Vernon/Plankinton in Wessington Springs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and it will also be Parents Night.
This year’s team is a bit lopsided on the young side with just five seniors hitting the field, Erik Kurth, Tyler Krueger, Jevon Hohn, Blake Messmer and Tre Swenson. Twelve freshman round out the bottom of the roster, with 18 sophomores and juniors filling in the middle.
The Blackhawks are led by Head Coach Jason Kolousek and assistant coaches Ray Ginsbach, Corey Flatten, Armando Rodriguez, Mitch McLagan and William Walker.
Girls volleyball starts off on the road as well, with a Sept. 3 game in Hanson. Thursday, Sept. 5 the girls will travel to Ethan. They are scheduled to return home for their home opener Sept. 10 when they host White Lake.
The girls volleyball team is also a young one with three seniors on the court, Jessica Schmit, Rachel Selland and Marissa Weber.
The Blackhawks girls are coached by Rick Olsen, with Tracy Moody, Dayna Rodriguez and Krista Evenson assisting.
All volleyball games begin at 6:30 p.m. with the junior varsity and football games start at 7 p.m. unless otherwise announced.
