Congrats to Jonathan Linke, Sanborn County 4-H member, on his Champion Beef Premier Exhibitor honors at the South Dakota State Fair and to Justin Krell, Aurora County 4-H member, for placing second in the contest.
Sanborn County 4-Her, Jonathan Linke, son of Henry and Paula Linke, was awarded Premier Exhibitor in the Beef Division. Aurora County 4-Her, Justin Krell, received second in the contest.
The Premier Exhibitor Award is earned by a 4-Her who demonstrates livestock production and management knowledge, superior decision-making and communication skills and recognizes excellence in the demonstration of project knowledge.
One Premier Exhibitor is awarded each year at the South Dakota State Fair in the areas of beef, sheep and swine. Twenty percent of the 4-Her’s score is based on an industry review, where a panel of judges ask questions on at least two issues pertinent to the specie.
The 4-Her must also participate in the livestock skill-a-thon during the State Fair which accounts for 40 percent of their score.
A production and management quiz consisting of a written exam focusing on practical application of skills as well as earning a showmanship ribbon while showing their livestock at the State Fair are the remaining portions of the Premier Exhibitor’s score.
In the Beef Skill-a-Thon contest at the South Dakota State Fair, Jonathan Linke received second place in the senior division and Aaron Linke placed third. Nathan Linke placed second in the junior division.
