New swan arrives just in time for Fourth

Dock to be installed for Fourth of July

A new male swan was brought to Lake Prior as a mate for the female, who was widowed after a late spring blizzard.
The male was introduced to his new home this past weekend and is still getting used to his surroundings and his female partner.
The timing for the introduction, with the water festival celebration this week, is unfortunate, as the new swan is not used to the chaos of the Fourth. The City of Woonsocket asks that the swans be given ample space during the activities centered around the lake. Please do not go near the swans, feed them or harass them in any way.
Also, the City of Woonsocket stresses there are to be no fireworks of any kind shot off around the lake throughout the Fourth of July holiday.

A new handicap accessible alumninum dock is being installed just in time for the July Fourth festivities. The dock will be connected to the cement pad shown.
City workers Rich Jensen and Drew Hinker along with Dick Regynski, who put the dock together, are shown getting the area ready last Tuesday morning.

PIERRE – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced recently that the state Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved a $775,000 low-interest loan from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to Letcher for wastewater system improvements.
The loan includes $275,000 in principal forgiveness, which leaves a $500,000 loan repayment. Loan terms are 3.25 percent for 30 years.
“I am pleased to announce that Letcher will receive this assistance,” said Gov. Daugaard. “This money will help Letcher make necessary improvements to its wastewater collection and treatment systems so they are more reliable and efficient.”
The project involves replacing the town’s existing lift station, inspecting all of the sanitary sewer lines, and installing riprap along the dikes of the wastewater treatment ponds.
The funding package will cover the estimated cost of the project.
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program provides low-interest loans for wastewater and storm water projects. Principal forgiveness is a subsidy option that results in a reduced loan repayment amount for the borrower.
The board met Thursday and Friday in Pierre.

The South Dakota 4-H Air Pistol team with their second place medals received at the National 4-H Shoot in the slow fire completion: Coach Art Kneen, Jacob Foiles, Darby Arbach, Jonathan Linke and Elliott Ohlrogge.

The second day was the silhouette competition.   Shooters have two and a half minutes each to shoot 10 chickens at 10 yards, 10 pigs at 12.5 yards, 10 turkeys at 15 yards and 10 rams at 18 yards.  The team did not place in this competition.
The final day was the timed fire/rapid fire combo. For the timed fire, the competitors shoot 20 shots at 10 meters in a time of 20 seconds per string of five shots. For the rapid fire, they shoot 20 shots at 10 meters in a time of 10 seconds per string of five shots.
