Rev. Adolph Bernhard Heltne, 99, of Norway, Kan. passed away June 3, 2013 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kan.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 6, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norway. Visitation was Wednesday evening at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, Kan. Interment was in Norway Cemetery, Norway.
Adolph was born Aug. 9, 1913 in Jerico, Iowa to Rev. Christian Heltne and Jennie (Halverson) Heltne.
He graduated from Spring Grove High School, Spring Grove, Minn. in 1932. He attended Luther college in Decorah Iowa, graduating in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He taught school at Bingham Lake High School, Bingham Lake, Minn. and served as an elementary principal at Brownsdale, Minn.
Adolph enrolled in Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn, graduating in May 1944.
He married Evelyn May Carlgren at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Norway, on June 7, 1944. He was ordained into the ministry on June 18, 1944 and they moved to Bradley, S.D. where he began his ministry. Adolph also served as pastor at Goodridge Lutheran Parish, Goodridge, Minn., before accepting a call to be pastor of the Storla-Trinity Parish, Storla.
He served in the ministry for 35 years, retiring to Norway in September of 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Carl, and wife, Brenda, Barnes, Wis., and Paul and wife, Trish, Scandia, Kan.; two daughters, Rebecca Janulewicz, and husband, Jerry, Grand Island, Neb., and Ilah Gilreath and husband, Rodney, Golden, Mo.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one niece, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul.
